«I met Iggy Pop and he was cool» By Schimun Krausz - fairy musician Aurora performs at music festivals since she was 16 years old. For 20 minutes she clears the openair reminder.
When Aurora Akses enters the stage, she instantly transforms a concrete desert into a magic forest. The Norwegian makes fairy pop, which sounds as if Tolkien's elves were loading to the forest festival in Lothlórien - spiked with a gentle danceability, which also hairy hobbit feet could not stand still.
Last year, the 21-year-old released her debut album, "All My Demons," and she is currently working on the next record, which is scheduled to be released in early 2018 - "but do not worry, I'll be releasing some new songs by then "She says in the interview with 20 minutes.
Despite intense songwriting, she finds the time to perform at the Swiss Blue Balls Festival in Lucerne in July - and for us to chat a bit from the open air sewing box.
Aurora, you actually bunked up in the recording studio, but does not let the festival season out. What do you like about Openairs?
I like it very much that I meet other artists. It is a good feeling when you are surrounded by people who just experience it and know how it is to be on tour and to be on the stage. You can learn a lot.
And otherwise?
The food is mostly really great. And it's nice to be out there - closer to Mother Nature, I like that. Your best open-air backstage experience so far? In Belgium I met Iggy Pop, he was really cool. I will never forget that he is a very special man. Have you talked to him? Well, I gave him a nod - and he has nodded back! I think we had a really nice meeting in spirit.
Apart from meeting in the backstage area: Which festival experience is particularly remembered for you?
One that is (at Rock Werchter 2016), where I met that day and Iggy Pop, happened on the same festival. The airline lost our luggage and I had to occur in something like a robe. My band was wearing jogging pants and Hawaiian shirts with palm trees and so on it. We thought: Not so bad, the performance will take place very early, which is not noticed so many people.
But?
Then we go on stage and be seen, since that 6000 people in the audience are. And: The show was filmed for television. That was quite a surprise. In combination with the meeting with Iggy Pop that was a pretty exciting day.
Did you as an artist visited festivals also in front of your existence?
No, I was too young to be allowed to go alone to the festival. I began my work as an artist in Norway at age 16, so I never really had the opportunity to go privately to open air festivals. When we have a day off after our appearance, I always try to spend as much of it at the festival to mingle with the people to walk around and experience the festival. So I can say that I was really there.
Is it for you even possible to walk around on the festival grounds, to be recognized without every few feet?
Not really. But I sometimes disguise myself, for example, with a hat and a strange dress that makes me a bit like an old woman look like. If I know the people anyway, I'm very happy to take a picture with them because they have then really deserves it; they are loyal fans who have seen through my fantastic camouflage.
