Sweet Prince from Kazakhstan was suffering from mental problems and couldn't afford medication. With Aurora's music his life took a new direction.
Russia/Bergen: -She's very important to me, says Sweet Prince (18) from Karangandy in Kazakhstan.
- I started listening to her songs in a period of my life when I was feeling hurt by my parents and friends at school. I developed tics and had to see a neurologist who prescribed some medicines, but I couldn't afford them. Then I stumbled across a live version of "Conqueror" and a new life for me started.
He was very fascinated by the girl from Os, watching every YouTube clip and interview he could get his hands on.
- Falling to sleep to the sound of Aurora
- The song that means the most for me is "Through the eyes of a child". I always put it on when I'm feeling nervous or when I'm ill. I also fall to sleep to the sound of it every night after I downloaded the record, says Prince.
- I also very often put that record on when I'm at work, diving into the atmosphere it creates. That way time flies away faster.
The girl from Os has in the course of her short career attracted an impressive number of fans across the world. But who are these dedicated fans really? BA has written about Brazilian fans who came over to Bergenfest for Aurora. Now we've been in contact with the Russian fan base "Russian warriors weirdoes". Prince and several hundred others are members of this network.
- My dearest friend
- Aurora is always with me in my heart. I feel like getting recognition and support when I hear her voice, Olya Mihalkovich (19) from Minsk in Russia writes in an email to BA.
She's just one of the dedicated fans that belong to the Russian fan page.
- Aurora helps me to act the way I am and not care about what others are thinking. I just cut may hair and I wear my blue favourite dog-decorated jacket even if others feel that is very strange, says Mihalkovich.
This fascination of the artist came about when she was about to see Radiohead at the Lollapalooza festival in Berlin. That was the first time she experienced Aurora.
- She got a special place in my heart ever since the first time I heard "Black water lilies".
Mihalkovich translates interviews and stories about Aurora into Russian so that everyone can keep up to date. This is very satisfying for her as she feels she gets closer to her idol by making her accessible to the group of followers.
BAs pictures go viral
- Since I translate interviews I feel I reduce the distance between Aurora and her Russian fans.
- I feel her presence in my life, it's almost as if it was real. So I regard Aurora as my dearest friend, Mihalkovich adds.
Looking at the amount of fan groups dedicated to the artist it's safe to say Mihalkovich is not alone in almost worshipping Aurora.
Similar groups can be found across the world and there's no doubt Aurora's amassed an enormous group of cans, considering her short career as an artist. Pictures and videos go viral, and that goes for Norwegian press pictures as well. A picture taken by BA's photographer Kai Svellingen Flatekvål has as the time of writing over 12,000 likes and 500 shares on Facebook, in addition to several shares on various Instagram accounts.
- It's very fascinating and fun that an artist from Os has got so many dedicated fans and that BA's pictures get spread across the world, says Flatekvål.
- Aurora's an unbelievably photogenic person and taking pictures of her is a pure joy, he adds.
