Sentrum Scene is looking forward to concert with the "beautiful, pretty and wonderful" artist.
(Translated into English by onelittlewarrior )
20 year old Aurora Aksnes from Os has made a definite mark on the pop scene over the last few years.
She has toured across Norway and across the globe, played the biggest talk shows in the USA and has garnered massive praise for her songs, videos and concerts.
In December she'll be on stage at Sentrum Scene in Oslo.
This is how the organizer chose to present the news on their Instagram page this Friday afternoon:
The wording is met with a wave of criticism in the comments.
"What about.... "clever Aurora"? "Talented"? "Musical"? I take it you don't book artist just because they're beautiful", writes one.
"Wow, this is 2017....? I can come up with many other things to describe her, lauding her as an artist and not just as beautiful, pretty and wonderful!! I hope you get your balls stuck in the drawer", another one writes.
"I'm sure you could have gotten av few camels for Aurora, but I thought you guys were into musical experiences", a third one wonders.
Critical industry
The Instagram post has also been published at Bransja Prat, a closed Facebook group for people in the music industry.
Quite a few "heavy weighters" agree to the criticism in the group, coming from Anita Halmøy Wisløff, booking agent at the agency Atomic Soul.
To VG she characterizes this as an example of women and men still being referred to in different ways.
- We would not get something ala "pretty, handsome and wonderful Sondre Justad coming to Sentrum Scene in December", because that just sounds correspondingly plain stupid, says Halmøy Wisløff.
- Hard working and talented Aurora deserves a much more respectful description from one of the country's leading concert scenes, she argues.
Self-proclaimed feminist
VG has been in contact with Bo Hustoft, in charge of booking at Sentrum Scene. He refers us to head of marketing, Rune Valle Tangen, whom VG still have not been able to get in touch with.
At Bransja Prat he writes this:
- I agree that the description may not be very fortunate. I'm a self-proclaimed feminist and fuzzy about how to word these things.
In the comments on Instagram the concert organizers eat humble pie:
- We're so very sorry. When you announce 23 new shows during a few days, with Constitution Day in the middle of the week, the Friday suddenly was a bit rough. Aurora is like you all say very talented, capable, hard working and a fantastic artist!
VG has also contacted Aurora's record company but has as of the time of writing not heard from them.
The description on Instagram has now been changed to "A unique artist is ready for a pre-Christmas concert at Sentrum Scene, having drawn two full crowds last year".
