More excellent news regarding funding, as Flimmer Film have just been awarded a substantial production-support boost of 1,800,000 kr from the Norsk filminstitutt.
A few reports carry the news of the 'Once Aurora' award together, naturally, with details of financial backing for other unrelated film projects too. Interestingly though, these reports also give us some insight into the sort of narrative and approach which the documentary makers look to be adopting with 'Once Aurora'.
From this Rushprint article, the relevant section, roughly translated from the original Norwegian. (Please feel free to correct errors in the translation).
..."Once Aurora follows closely the Norwegian artist Aurora Aksnes. In the previous years she has released her first album 'All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend' and toured with her band in sold-out concert venues around the world. Her family supports and works for her - the sisters take care of make-up and costumes, and they build their own studio at home with their parents. Aurora is now on a break - she moves away from home, is going to release a new album, and she knows the pressure to deliver a radio-friendly hit. Maintaining her uncompromising stance in the musical universe, as well as holding onto herself and who she is becoming, is a challenge in a tough and commercial industry!"...
And this from Norsk filminstitutt's own website, again in rough translation.
..."the documentary Once Aurora, closely follows Norwegian artist Aurora Aksnes. How has she gone from being an unknown 16-year-old to becoming an international pop artist and what has it cost?"...
And from elsewhere on the Norsk filminstitutt website, the following translation about the project.
"Once Aurora is a strong visual project about a young woman's choice in a hard music industry. This is documented by the team, which has unique access and clear agreements with Aurora, her band, her manager and her family. It is a story that is both touching and close to the Aurora phenomenon, and her struggle to find out who she is and who she thinks the world should remember her as. It is both a complex and an authentic story, which has a clear theme, emphasizing a beautiful aesthetic."
With this recent additional funding - plus the fact that the Norwegian broadcasting corporation NRK have already bought into the project - things now look to be moving on apace!
This older photograph (not directly related to any of the above articles or sites) was kindly shared on Twitter by fan Joe Pasquale and shows Aurora with the Flimmer Film team (during a break in filming) while she was in New York to play at 'Webster Hall' back in November 2016.
