Aurora is back on home turf and will play for a sold-out Bastionen tonight. - It's going to be very fun!
The sun indicates midday and a grinning Aurora meets BA at Bastionen. She's about 15 minutes delayed and is very sorry because of it.
- School has started again so there is more traffic than we anticipated, she laughs.
On Wednesday she came back to Norway again, having played a concert in Budapest on Tuesday. She has played Roskilde and Glastonbury, festivals with about 100,000 and 200,000 people respectively.
Tonight she'll be on stage in front of 3,000 people at Bastionen.
- No really, you're not kidding? Is it really sold out? How fun!
Flying visit back home
Aurora Aksnes, the 20-year old from Os who has had success internationally in no time is back home. The girl from Os calls Bergen "her own city".
- My life is really good now. Of course there are ebbs and flows every few minutes. Or..... At least every few hours. But it may be connected to me not having eaten enough. Tonight I'm looking forward to playing in my own city as a somewhat more established artist, she says.
Because it's been a very hectic year for the artist. In January she was awarded the Norwegian Grammy as "new artist of the year" and in March she released her debut album "All My Demons Greeting Me As A Friend".
She's played at several venues across the world and has experiences many good things. There are too many to pick a single one.
- There have also been difficult things. Things change all the time but I mainly remember the nice things. It's been an upward journey all along. From Montreal in Canada, till Way Out West in Sweden. Then there was this peak in Budapest on Saturday.
Her schedule is full until 18 December with concerts, rehearsals and work in the studio. But after that she'll have one and a half weeks off.
- I'm looking forward to Christmas, she notes.
Her sisters and new friends
On several occasions she's lauded her two sisters Miranda and Viktoria, saying that they're irreplaceable. Among other things they travelled with her to the US when she appeared with Jimmy Fallon and to the Øya Festival this summer. And they're always involved in Aurora's music videos.
- It's really the worst thing. I work long hours and I get cold.
Miranda is a make-up artist and Viktoria is a designer and stylist. The contribute quite a lot to Aurora's image. Miranda is there for tonight's concert.
- What's it like being Aurora' sister?
- It's very nice. It's so fun going with her and I get to do my profession, Miranda smiles.
We're backstage and Aurora is soon to do sound check. Her sister is dabbing her nose with some powder on her way to the next interview.
- I've never been really good at getting new friends. I'm best friend with my big sisters and the members of my band. But lately I've tried to spend some more time with people my own age, and succeeded at that, Aurora informs us and adds:
- I't also because I don't want to be the only one left when they die. That's quite logic, she smiles.
Her new friends will be at the concert.
- They don't ask me about so many things so they don't really know a lot about me as an artist, the 20-year old says.
- One thousand unfinished songs
Aurora is currently working on new material. Or as she explains it: "I write new lyrics all the time". She doesn't know when the new material will be out. But everytime she's at home she's working in the studio.
- Before, when I finished a song, I celebrated with myself. But now I start writing a new song and then suddenly I have to eat dinner or board a plane. Then I suddenly get the idea of a new song. So basically I must have a thousand unfinished songs.
- How do you visualize the upcoming album?
She hesitates for quite a while.
- The more you give in the more commercial it'll be. If you become very commercial you become quite powerful. Everyone wants the best for me, and I want that for myself too. But the next record is going to be very Aurora. There was a lot of Aurora also on the first one, but that one is a bit more influences by other people's opinions. More than I find comfortable, the artist says.
- I'm so looking forward to release more music.
Aurora goes on stage around 21.00 tonight.
